Methodology

The SECORA ABI training system was developed from many years of practical application of a variety of continuous improvement tools and techniques. Using contemporary academic research as a basis it draws on the best elements from Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints and their predecessors. This synergy of knowledge ensures that students graduate with the required knowledge on what to apply to a specific issue and more importantly, what not to apply.

The SECORA ABI Model shows how you can improve the efficiency and competitiveness of processes, and how they can be modified to improve performance and overall capability. The deployment philosophy of ABI is shown in this simplified diagram. Each layer builds on and enhances the one below forming a Business Improvement Culture.

Level One


EXPAND

Level 1 is designed for ABI practitioners: on graduation from this level the organisation will have an individual who is competent in the application of continuous improvement tools and techniques. This is comprised of three sub-levels; the Foundation level provides ABI awareness, local knowledge, organisational readiness and Kaizen; the Basic level covers off Visual Management, Workplace Organisation, Problem Solving and Standard Work; the Advanced training builds on the Basic level and includes Logistics and Inventory Management, Employee and Equipment Development and Total Preventative Maintenance (TPM).

Level Two

Level 2 is designed for Lean Managers. These are individuals who will be leading the program but not heavily involved in the application of the tools and techniques. The learning outcomes this training delivers are managing and sustaining change plus advanced diagnostic tools. Subject matter will include process excellence and Lean management.

Level Three

Level 3 is designed for Lean Leaders. These are the individuals who will be leading and accountable for the organisational change program. The learning outcomes for this level are focused on Leadership and Culture. Subject matter includes Business Improvement Culture.

John Grout

John Grout, Partner

John founded SECORA Australasia with Mark Taylor in 2006 and has consulted for clients in the Mining, Oil & Gas and Professional Services sectors. John comes from senior executive operations positions having spent 15 years in the automotive and defence sectors. His strengths include advising clients in Lean methodologies with particular emphasis on operational effectiveness, asset utilisation, cost reduction, work management, organisation, project management, restructuring and strategic planning.
